The last song is an epilogue to the album taking place a long time after the earlier events. The human evolution has peaked and started to decline while the size of brain and territories diminishes and the laws of jungle are applied.

Quite early in the writing process this felt like it has to be somewhere in the end, maybe even an ending track as it`s quite colossal. The text idea about a gorilla or chimpanzee fitted together with the main riff of this song as it sounds like a gorilla stomping around with all the groove. Again, one of the amusing riffs. In the same way it is quite colossal throughout the song having a lot of choirs and low tuned groovy guitar riffs. The grooviness gets a bit out of hand in the middle section when a jazz/blues solo kicks in, with finger snapping and walking bass, of course. This song in particular was  fun to write which can be heard especially in that section. The melody of the intro track repeats during the song as well and once again in the end closing the album.

It was also clear that the text would be in the end of the album as it is about biologically closest species to human. Another reason to end in this subject is the book I mentioned earlier, Ishmael, which is about a gorilla. That book influenced the album heavily and the gorilla became sort of symbol for it, even though the name and the cover of the song refers to chimpanzee. Again, my obsession to titles with multiple meanings turned it into Sinpansee, which consists of several other words related to the album theme. The album cover logo shows the development curve and this text takes place in the right end of it, as the human evolution is reversing. The territories, habitats and brain become smaller as evolution planned human to fall. The chorus is a flashback from the time when human was still on the top of its development but stating that its outrageous attempt to become divine lead to its decline and eventually fall:

"once I had my dream that I could fly
above the clouds
but then realized I have no wings
now I might fall"

Viimeinen kappale on albumin epilogi, joka sijoittuu ajallisesti paljon aikaisempia tapahtumia myöhemmäksi. Ihmisen evoluutio on nähnyt huippunsa ja alkanut taantua samaan aikaan aivojen ja reviirien koon pienetessä viidakon lakien vallitessa.

Aika aikaisessa vaiheessa kappale vaikutti sijoittuvan jonnekin albumin loppupuolelle, mahdollisesti viimeiseksi, onhan kappale aika kolossaalinen. Teksti-idea gorillasta tai simpanssista sopi hyvin yhteen pääriffin kanssa, kuin gorilla tömistelisi grooven tahtiin. Jälleen, yksi niistä viihdyttävistä riffeistä. Kappale jatkuu samaan tapaan kolossaalisena kaikkine kuoroineen ja matalavireisine groovaavine riffeineen. C-osassa groovet lähtevät hieman käsistä jazz/blues-soolon alkaessa, sormien napsautusten ja walking bass-kuvioiden kanssa tietenkin. Tätä kappaletta oli erityisen hauska tehdä, joka kuuluu varsinkin tuossa osassa. Introssa esitelty melodia toistuu myös tässä kappaleessa ja vielä kerran lopussa päättäen albumin.

Myös teksti oli selkeästi tulossa loppupuolelle, koska se kertoo biologisesti lähimmästä lajista ihmiselle. Toinen syy lopettaa tähän aiheeseen on aiemmin mainitsemani kirja, Ismael, joka kertoo gorillasta. Tuo kirja vaikutti albumiin vahvasti ja gorillasta tuli jonkinlainen albumin symboli, vaikka kappaleen nimi ja kansikuva viittaakin simpanssiin. Albumin kannessa näkyvä logo kuvaa kehitystä ja tämä teksti sijoittuu tuon kuvan oikeaan reunaan, ihmisen käänteiseen evoluutioon. Reviirit, elinympäristöt ja aivot pienenevät, koska evoluutio suunnitteli ihmisen putoamaan. Kertosäe on häivähdys ajasta, jolloin ihminen oli kehityksensä huipulla, mutta toteaa häikäilemättömän yrityksen tulla taivaalliseksi johtaneen laskuun ja lopulta pudotukseen:

"once I had my dream that I could fly
above the clouds
but then realized I have no wings
now I might fall"

9. MY GREAT FALL

The second last song is quite a special one. I guess this would be the actual ballad kind of song, although it`s quite diverse. As pronounced, the name refers to migration, immigration and fall of humanity after the human was left to survive on its own.

The song started with a clean guitar melody which is very melancholic and created a feeling like being surrounded by ruin and war, in some kind of isolation. The odd time signature created a bit of rush and stress to it, which emphasizes the feeling I was looking for. That keeping in mind, had to include a section in the song in which bombers drop bombs, the shit falls down, so to speak. Despite the melancholic beginning, the song is after all quite positive and hopeful towards the end, a lot of open major chords, clean guitar and vocals. In the middle section there is a part which idea was a cliff jump and after that taking wings.

The lyrics got heavily influenced by the current immigration wave which started in fall 2015, if I am right, and the title refers also to that as pronounced "migrate fall". Also birds have a tendency to migrate from habit to another, trying to find environments where to survive. This text is about a time period of that fall (with a little different ending), which revealed the true human nature on its own. It also ends the story as the endangered species gets shot down. But the only question is: who pulled the trigger?

Toiseksi viimeisenä aika erikoiskappale. Tämä olisi varmaankin lähempänä oikeaa balladia, vaikkakin se on aika monipuolinen. Lausuttuna nimi viittaa muuttoliikkeeseen, maahanmuuttoon ja ihmisyyden häviämiseen sen jälkeen kun ihminen on jätetty selviämään omillaan.

Kappale sai alkunsa clean-kitaramelodiasta, joka on hyvin melankolinen ja sai aikaan tunteen kuin olisi raunioiden ja sodan ympäröimä, jonkinlaisessa eristyksessä. Erilainen tahtilaji toi siihen vielä kiireen ja hädän tuntua, joka korosti sitä hakusessa ollutta tunnetta. Siihen liittyen kappaleeseen piti saada myös osio, jossa pommikoneet pudottavat pommeja, eli paska valuu alas, niin sanoakseni. Huolimatta melankolisesta aloituksesta, loppujen lopuksi kappale on aika positiivinen ja toiveikas loppua kohden, paljon avoimia duurisointuja, clean-kitaraa ja puhdasta laulua. Kappaleen keskiosassa on osa, jonka ideana oli hyppy jyrkänteeltä siiville.

Sanoitukset saivat paljon vaikutteita nykyisestä maahanmuuttoaallosta, joka taisi alkaa syksyllä 2015, jos olen oikeassa, ja otsikko viittaa myös tähän englanniksi lausuttuna. Myös linnuilla on taipumus muuttaa elinympäristöstä toiseen selvitäkseen hengissä. Tämä teksti kertoo tuosta syksystä (hieman erilaisella lopetuksella), joka paljasti todellisen ihmisluonteen omillaan ollessaan. Teksti myös lopettaa koko tarinan kun uhanalainen laji ammutaan alas. Mutta ainut kysymys on: kuka painoi liipaisimesta?

8. ARK AEONIAN

The next track is quite a beast in both music and text wise being the climax of the album. It is about the end of an aeon when the carrying capacity gets exceeded. The shit deluge has risen and the revolution takes place resulting archaeon anarchy. Of course.

This song is collaboration of myself and the bassist, Panu, who provided the confusing main riff which sounds like it`s in some odd time signature even though it`s actually not. I had a tapping chorus idea which was somehow spacey that I wanted to use but it was not progressing until the main riff came along. After that the song kind of wrote itself. A bit older riff idea of mine occurred and completed the song. In the c part the combination of these two ideas gets quite wild and escalates in rocket launch.

The text is written mainly in the perspective of an archaeon which has witnessed everything since the beginning of the aeon, the aeon of the anthropoids which the animal kingdom leaves now behind. The evacuation plan of the human has been revealed to the other species which will take over the ark. The end of the song is the only time on the album which is written on the perspective of human and sums up pretty much everything:

"I wanted to leave my dying world with full filled ark
I wanted to leave with my disgrace
but I was left behind with my empty space
I was left alone with my empty trace
with my disgrace"

Seuraava on melkoinen pala niin musiikillisesti kuin tekstillisestikin, onhan kyseessä levyn kliimaksiin osuva kappale. Se kertoo maailmankauden lopusta kun kantokyky ylittyy. Paskapaisumus on noussut ja vallankumous tapahtuu ajautuen arkkien anarkiaan. Tietenkin.

Kappale on tehty yhteistyössä basisti-Panun kanssa, joka tarjoili hämmentävän pääriffin, joka kuulostaa kuin se olisi jossakin erikoisessa tahtilajissa vaikkei oikeasti olekaan. Oma avaruudellinen kertosäeideani täppäyksineen oli jo olemassa ja halusin sen käyttää, mutta se juurikaan edennyt ennen kuin tuo pääriffi ilmaantui. Sen jälkeen kappale aika lailla kirjoitti itse itsensä. Oma vähän vanhempi riffi-idea palautui mieleen ja täydensi kappaleen. C-osassa näiden kahden idean yhdistelmä villiintyy ja eskaloituu raketin laukaisuun.

Teksti on kirjoitettu pääasiassa arkkieliön perspektiivistä, joka on nähnyt kaiken maailmankauden alusta lähtien, kädellisten maailmankauden, jonka eläinkunta nyt jättää jälkeensä. Ihmisen evakuointisuunnitelma on paljastunut muille lajeille, jotka ottavat arkin haltuunsa. Lopussa on ainoa kohta albumia, joka on kirjoitettu ihmisen näkökulmasta ja se summaa aika lailla kaiken:

7. THE RACE OF RATS

The next one is the ballad of the album, at least in tempo wise, but I wouldn't call it a love song in the traditional sense. This song dives deep into the disgusting sewers of human mind where the animals have dropped and abandoned the rational race to simmer in self-pity.

The writing of this song got some doom and even stoner metal influences somehow. The overall feel is very dragging and oppressive with dominant bass and the idea was to make it sound like crawling in sewers. Some contrast to that gives the middle section with again some latin influenced rhythm and alternating bass. The structure of the song is a bit unusual having the "chorus" in the end, but the song itself consist only of a few parts. After all the song was really all about building strong ambiance fitting with the text which, I think, was pretty much achieved.

Considering the whole theme, this is one of the key texts. The title refers to several things (seems to be my personal race to include as many meanings in a title as possible) such as the literal race of the rodent rats, the competition between them and also to the current rat race style of living. The text sails in a worthlessness void trying to find fulfillment, thrill and meaning after all the wasted time and disgrace. Finally the chorus concludes:

"No-one knew a way how to fulfill the wasted race
like a sewer pipe got clogged by excreted racial disgrace
the ark is filled full, the last passenger without a seat
the rational race left to drain in its self-shed shit"

Seuraavana vuorossa albumin balladi, ainakin kappaleen temmon mukaan, mutta ei sitä perinteiseksi rakkauslauluksi voine kutsua. Tässä sukelletaan syvälle ihmismielen viemäreihin, jonne eläimet ovat itsesäälissä rypevän rationaalisen rodun pudottaneet ja hylänneet.

Musiikissa on jonkinlaisia doom ja stoner metallivaikutteita. Yleinen tuntuma on hyvin laahaava ja ahdistava dominoivine bassoineen ja alun perin ideana oli saada se kuulostamaan kuin viemäreissä ryömisi. Vastapainoksi kappaleen keskiosassa on jälleen kuultavissa lattarivaikutteista rytmiä ja vaihtobassoa. Kappaleen rakenne on hieman epätavallinen, koska "kertosäe" on lopussa, mutta kappale itsessään koostuu vain muutamasta osasta. Loppujen lopuksi tarkoituksena oli saada aikaan vahva tunnelma, joka sopii hyvin tekstiin joka, ainakin omasta mielestäni, aika lailla onnistui.

Levykokonaisuuden kannalta kappaleen teksti on avainasemassa. Otsikko viittaa useaan asiaan (vaikuttaisi olevan oma henkilökohtainen kilpailuni sisällyttää kappaleiden nimiin niin monta merkitystä kuin mahdollista), kuten kirjaimellisesti jyrsijärottien rotuun, niiden väliseen kilpailuun sekä myös nykyiseen elämäntapaan oravanpyörässä. Teksti seilailee arvottomuustyhjiössä etsien täyttymystä, jännitystä ja tarkoitusta kaiken haaskatun ajan ja häpäisyn jälkeen. Lopussa kertosäe kiteyttää:

6. VIRALTAR

This one was released earlier as a single as it`s probably the easiest songs to approach on the album and also the text was understandable without knowing the theme of the album. Still considering the whole album, it is an important piece and tied to it many ways.

Originally the song started with the main riff which again is one that I was laughing at when wrote it but it got a groove that was somehow catchy. Then, after writing the chorus and the following breakdown it was quite clear that if something was to be presented first from the album, it would be this track. The bridge riff and its rhythm are actually quite old ideas but the cranky, sort of latin rhythm influenced groove was fitting together with the rest of the song so well that had to use it and it turned out to be quite a prevalent element of the song.

The idea of the text came from the bassist, Panu, and was originally about fake news causing casualties due to disinformation concerning medicines and treating diseases. I had been annoyed too (like probably many others nowadays) by all kinds of click baits and misleading headlines which can fundamentally distort ones perception of very essential topics. This led to an idea about truth being sacrificed at the viral altar for the sake of profit and political agendas. The viral system is diseased so  have to press CNTL + ALT + DEL to delete the controlling altar. In addition to the virus aspect (referring to both biological and computer virus) also the worshipping linked the text nicely to the theme and became an important watershed in the middle of the album.

Tämä kappale julkaistiin jo aiemmin singlenä, koska se on varmaankin helpoiten lähestyttävä levyn kappaleista ja teksti on ymmärrettävissä paremmin tietämättä varsinaista laajempaa teemaa. Se on kuitenkin tärkeä osa levykokonaisuuden kannalta ja sidoksissa siihen monin tavoin.

Alun perin kappale sai alkunsa pääriffistä, joka oli taas yksi niistä ideoista, jotka nauratti kirjoitusvaiheessa, mutta siinä oli kuitenkin tietty tarttuva groove. Kun kertosäe ja sen jälkeinen osa oli valmiina, alkoi tuntua, että tämä olisi varmastikin paras vaihtoehto, jos jonkin kappaleen haluaisi irrottaa ja esitellä ensimmäisenä levyltä. Siltariffi ja sen pohjana oleva rytmi-idea ovat itse asiassa aika vanhoja ideoita, mutta sen vinksahtanut, hieman lattarimainen poljento sopi yhteen muun kappaleen kanssa, joten olihan se käytettävä, ja siitä tulikin aika vallitseva osa kappaletta.

Tekstin idea tuli basistilta, Panulta, ja se liittyi siihen, kuinka valeuutiset ovat aiheuttaneet kuolonuhreja lääkkeiden ja tautien hoitoon liittyvän väärän tiedon takia. Myös itseäni oli ärsyttänyt (kuten varmaan monia muita nykypäivänä) kaikenlaiset harhaanjohtavat klikkiotsikot, jotka voivat itsessään perustavanlaatuisesti vääristää kenen tahansa kuvan hyvin tärkeistä asioista. Tästä tuli idea totuuden uhraamiseen viraalilla alttarilla paremman katteen ja poliittisten agendojen takia. Viraalinen järjestelmä on sairas, joten täytyy painaa näppäimiä CNTL + ALT + DEL, jotta saa poistettua kontrolloivan alttarin. Viruspuolen lisäksi (viitaten sekä biologiseen että tietokonevirukseen) myös palvontaidea linkitti tekstin kokonaisuuteen hyvin ja siitä tulikin tärkeä vedenjakaja keskellä levyä.

5. SERVANTS

Servants was the first finished song on the album and was probably one of the very first song titles written. Like the cover and title suggests, it`s got something to do with ants, which are known their well organized armies, serving and defending their queen and nest for their lives.

The song is one of the heaviest on the album and eventually turned out quite bombastic, with all the choirs, pianos and strong ambiance. It´s got some tricky riffs, in the end probably sounding quite "djenty", but it`s still very straightforward structure wise. Obviously there is also a marching section, as we are talking about war.

The very first song title idea for the song was merchants of which influence is still present on the text. I think the idea came after seeing all the merchants on the streets in India selling basically anything one might need, just to keep them and their families alive and in the same time being a servant of the "system". Later on the title changed to servants because of the mentioned point and seeing a lot of sherpas carrying huge packs of stuff on their backs up the mountains.

The text basically compares human to ants referring to fighting wars for the ones own community, pleasing the leader to gain honour and get a reason to live (or die) for and eventually give ones life as an offering. This is questioned in the text by pointing out how huge role the weapon industry plays in the chess game and in the end, the pawned lives became just worthless offerings without actually benefiting anyone else but the certain parties of the game. The chorus of the song concludes that:

"I gave the most profitable offering
to the queen, she is my everything
I gave my life as an offering 
but it was just another pawn on the board for the queen"

Servants oli ensimmäinen valmistunut kappale ja oli myös varmaan ensimmäisiä tekstiaiheita. Kuten kansikuva ja nimi antaa ymmärtää, se liittyy jotenkin muurahaisiin, jotka tunnetaan hyvin järjestäytyneistä armeijoistaan sekä kuningattarensa sekä pesänsä palvelemisesta ja suojelemisesta henkensä kaupalla.

Kyseessä on yksi raskaimmista kappaleista levyllä ja siitä tulikin lopulta aika mahtipontinen kuoroineen, pianoineen ja vahvan tunnelmansa takia. Kappaleessa on jokunen koukeroinen riffi, lopussa aika "djenttimäinenkin", mutta rakenteeltaan se on kuitenkin suora. Ja koska puhutaan sodasta, kappaleesta löytyy marssiosio, kuinkas muuten.

Ensimmäinen nimiaihio kappaleelle oli merchants (kauppiaat), joka näkyy edelleen tekstissä. Idea taisi tulla nähtyäni Intiassa kaikki ne katukauppiaat myyden käytännössä mitä vain joku voi tarvita, pitääkseen itsensä ja perheensä elossa ja samalla palvellen "järjestelmää". Myöhemmin nimestä tuli nykyisenkaltainen mainituista syistä johtuen ja nähtyäni paljon sherpoja kantamassa valtavia pakaaseja selässään ylös vuorille.

Teksti rinnastaa ihmisen ja muurahaiset liittyen sotimiseen oman yhteisönsä puolesta, johtajan miellyttämiseen kunnian ja syyn elää (tai kuolla) saamisen takia, ja lopulta antaa henkensä uhrilahjana. Tämä kyseenalaistetaan tekstissä tuomalla ilmi aseteollisuuden suuri rooli shakkipelissä ja lopussa pantatut elämät muuttuvat arvottomiksi uhrilahjoiksi hyödyttämättä ketään muuta kuin tiettyjä peliin osallistujia. Kappaleen kertosäe tiivistää tämän:

"I gave the most profitable offering

but it was just another pawn on the board for the queen"

4. A WHALELURE

The next one is probably the silliest song on the album which is kind of proving the point of the text, questioning and literally mocking the intelligence and size of human brain. And by a whales perspective of course, which is quite well known for its intelligence (and quite huge brain size, even considering the size of the body).

The song itself is quite uptempo and got one of those riffs which literally made me laugh out loud while writing it. In addition there is, again, chorus with jazzy chords and melody as well as c part with blast beat sea adventure and a short funeral in the end of it.

A goofy song required goofy text, although with a serious point. As human has tendency to show off its achievements, the text is a tall story about catching the biggest fish, a whale (and no, it is not really a fish), thus questioning the superiority of human brain through his morally failed achievements. Also intelligence quotient and physical size of human brain (and certain reproductive organ) gets quite harsh mockery from the whale which is desperately trying to escape the ocean from all the human shed shit. That is stated in the bridge of the song:

"your perception of brain capacity
only reflects your great ability
to exaggerate your tall tales 
of the size of whales tail
if your intelligence quotient was
measured by your achievements done
obtained zero would be reduced by one
the result is not worth to solve"

And as shit tends to fall down from the top, animal kingdom starts to plan a revolution as its getting fed up with the current precedence. In the end man gets thrown overboard into his self shed shit drowning in his shame and sinking with his arrogance. Animals can be pretty cruel sometimes!

Seuraavana varmaankin hölmöin kappale levyllä, joka tavallaan jo itsessään kuvaa hyvin tekstin sanomaa, jossa kyseenalaistetaan ja kirjaimellisesti pilkataan ihmisaivojen älykkyyttä ja kokoa. Ja tietenkin valaan näkökulmasta, onhan se tunnettu älykkyydestään (ja aika isoista aivoistaan, kokoonkin suhteutettuna).

Kappale itsessään on kiivastempoinen ja siinä on yksi levyn riffeistä, jota tehdessä nauroin ääneen. Lisäksi siitä löytyy, jälleen, jazzmaisilla soinnuilla ja melodialla varustettu kertosäe sekä c-osassa blast beat-meriseikkailu, jonka lopussa lyhyet hautajaiset.

Hölmö kappale vaati hölmön tekstin, kuitenkin oikealla sanomalla. Kun ihmisellä on taipumusta mahtailla saavutuksillaan, teksti kertoo kalajutun suurimman kalan pyydystämisestä eli valaan (ja ei, eihän se oikeasti ole kala), kyseenalaistaen ihmisaivojen ensiluokkaisuuden ihmisen moraalisesti epäonnistuneiden saavutusten kautta. Lisäksi älykkyysosamäärä ja ihmisaivojen (sekä tietyn lisääntymiselimen) koko saa rajua pilkkausta valaalta, joka epätoivoisesti koittaa paeta merestä ihmispaskan alta. Se on kiteytetty kappaleen silta-osassa.

Ja kuten paskalla on taipumus valua alaspäin huipulta, eläinkunta alkaa suunnitella vallankumousta kun sen mitta alkaa täyttyä nykyisestä arvojärjestyksestä. Lopulta ihminen heitetään laidan yli omaan paskaansa hukkumaan häpeäänsä ja uppoamaan ylimielisyytensä kanssa. Eläimet voivat olla välillä aika julmia!
