You are reading in order quite manyth blog about album production of a Finnish metal band SkiZma, this album being second full length album of the band. Because the recording of the album is nearly finished the purpose of this blog is to function as one releasing platform mainly focusing on the introduction of the theme and the songs of the album. This time it will be carried out by videos due to laziness of the writer, although some text might occur if producing words turns out too challenging. Might.
The starting point of the musical creation was almost year ago, in February 2017, when most of the material was discharged. Due to the geographical location, possibilities to create/express new music were quite small and therefore when it was possible again it all came out in quite a burst. In September 2017 we came to a realization that there was enough (even too many) songs for a full length album so it was time to start thinking about recording possibilities.
Countdown for the textual theme took place already in the summer of 2016 when yours truly got some reading in a form of a book called Ishmael - An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit by Daniel Quinn. Even though the album theme perceived later in the fall, the book gave strong foundation for the subject: the arrogant and oppressing attitude of human towards other animal species and environment. While traveling in India in the fall the theme started to focus more and more on animals and how cultures and religions affect on the reciprocal status of human and animal. For example in the West the current meat production of cow is ordinary whereas in India one can be given death penalty for slaughtering a cow which is a holy animal for Hindus. On the other hand dogs can be a scourge in Asia and eating them is not uncommon but in the West they are almost as precious as human being. Also a key influencer to the theme is religious worshipping of gods. Although in this case human has taken the status of god and the other animal species worship the Almighty Human. In addition, the evolutive perspective is heard in the arguments of the animals in the texts.
Almost every song is written in the perspective of a particular animal species criticizing human either metaphorically by equating the behavior of the animal and human or questioning the superiority of human by kidding for example about the size and necessity of human brain and a certain reproductive organ. And as we know, the shit falls down from the top of the hierarchy following a shit deluge where humiliated, disgraced and abandoned human race is left to drown - into its self-made shit - whereas the other animal kingdom saves itself from the threatening collapse of biodiversity and the ultimate mass extinction wave. Despite the hopeless ending, the summary is that human and other animal species are not that different in the end, besides the superficial hierarchy.
